Good Carbs vs. Bad Carbs

We all should know by now, that basal (Morning, Fasted) insulin levels typically range between 8-10 μU/mL (microunits per milliliter of blood).  We also know that the release of fat from the fat cell is slowed by 50% by the time insulin reaches 18 μU/mL.

The burning of fat from the blood CEASES by the time insulin rises to 30 μU/mL, and finally, ALL aspects of fat burning CEASE when insulin rises to 34 μU/mL, at which point the conversion of carbohydrate to fat (body fat) becomes maximally turned-on.

What's This Mean?

In a recent study, obese diabetic subjects were fed two diets consisting of high Glycemic Index and low Glycemic Index foods that differed in their Glycemic Index by a whopping 50%. Basal insulin levels in the obese subjects were high, as expected, about 43 μU/mL.  In low Glycemic Index subjects, plasma insulin levels peaked ninety minutes after the meal, reaching 215 μU/mL.

The subjects who consumed the high Glycemic Index meal had insulin levels that peaked at one hundred fifty minutes, reaching a slightly lower figure, 183 μU/mL.

215 μU/mL the low Glycemic index food over 90 minutes

183 μU/mL the high Glycemic index food over 150 minutes

__________

= 32 μU/mL

Keep in mind that all aspects of fat burning CEASE when insulin rises to 34 μU/mL.  There was no significant statistical difference, however, in the insulin levels of the two groups during the five hours that they were measured.

In a daily effort to lose weight, you can see that if you allow insulin levels to rise above 34 μU/mL the battle is already over.

The only thing that a Low Glycemic Index food (good carb) does is slow the timing of any release of insulin than that of a High Glycemic index. Both Good or Bad Carb will shut out ALL fat burning, and raise insulin levels to a dangerous level.
